Optical Processes in PMMA, SiO2, and Hybrid Organic−Inorganic Sol−Gel Films Colored with Rhodamine 6GDN

Abstract: The sol-gel technique was used to incorporate rhodamine 6GDN (Rh 6GDN) into thin layers of SiO 2 and into an organic-inorganic hybrid matrix (OIHM). The OIHM is composed of a mixture of SiO 2 and an acrylic copolymer. The Rh 6GDN was also incorporated into poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrices. To investigate the influence of the different matrices on the optical behavior of the Rh 6GDN-colored layers on glass substrates, the optical absorption and photoluminescence were measured and analyzed. The absorpti… Show more

“…This is due to the advantage that these biopolymers are abundant, inexpensive, renewable, and fully biodegradable natural raw materials. It is now possible to prepare polymer/ceramic hybrids via molecular‐level manipulation using a sol–gel process to create novel materials 12–20. The promise of these new hybrid materials is a controllable combination of benefits of polymers (e.g.…”

“…A dye was coupled to the particles to minimise the background “contamination” in our signal. Rhodamine 6G (R6G), a laser dye with high brightness (strong visible absorption and high fluorescence quantum yield) and photostability [ 44 ], was used to tag BE-ZnO NPs ( Figures S4 and S5 ).…”

“…Aligned with the above topics, methyl orange (MO) [1,34,35], methylene blue (MB) [15,[36][37][38][39], and rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) [16,34,[40][41][42][43] are dyes frequently used to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of some semiconductors and other compounds, such as TiO 2 , ZnO, or reduced graphene oxide [11,13,26].…”
