Optical Nonlinear Proreties and Optical Limiting Effect of Metanil Yellow

Abstract: Problem statement: The third order nonlinear optical properties of organic polymers are used in high speed telecommunication, optical limiters and optical computers. The purpose of the study was to determine the third order nonlinear characteristics and optical limiting effect of the organic dye, metanil yellow in liquid and solid medium. Approach: The samples were prepared by dissolving the dye in acetonitrile (liquid medium) at different concentration and thin film was prepared by bulk polymerization method.… Show more

“…The spectral absorption peak wavelength ( a ) was calculated to be 575 nm. The spectral parameters such as molar extinction co efficient ε( ) = 5.5 × 10 4 L mol −1 cm −1 , oscillator strength (f) = 2.02 × 10 −24 L mol −1 cm −2 and band width( 1/2 ) = 8.5 × 10 3 cm −1 were calculated at 575 nm [8].…”

“…The seedpods are enclosed in red fleshy calyces, which are commonly used for making food and tea as well as for several bio and phytochemicals applications in relation to its antioxidant properties [7][8][9]. The calyx of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (Roselle) is originally of a deep red color.…”

“…Such polymers bearing suitable azobenzene moieties are well known for their induced nonlinear optical properties [1][2][3], due to their cis -trans clean photochemistry. Most azobenzenes can be optically isomerized from trans to cis with light, anywhere within the broad absorption band; and the molecule will subsequently thermally relax back into the trans state on a timescale dictated by the substitution pattern.…”
