Non-local optical potentials for the scattering of 200 MeV protons from 22 nuclei, ranging in mass from to , have been defined by folding a complex, medium-dependent effective interaction with density matrix elements of each target. The effective interaction is based upon solutions of the Lippmann - Schwinger and Brueckner - Bethe - Goldstone equations having the Paris potential as input. The bound-state single-particle wavefunctions that specify the nuclear density matrices are Woods - Saxon functions for and harmonic oscillator functions thereafter. The resulting differential cross sections, analysing powers and spin rotations all compare well with the known data.

In-medium full-folding optical model for nucleon-nucleus elastic scattering

Artículo de publicación ISIWe develop an approach for incorporating both medium and off-shell effects in the calculation of full-folding nucleon-nucleus optical potentials for elastic scattering. The approach is based on a flexible scheme for calculating the nucleon-nucleon effective interaction in the nuclear medium. Using this scheme, we calculate a fully off-shell, energy-dependent effective force which includes effects arising from Pauli blocking and the nuclear mean field via an interacting nuclear matter model. Calculations of the elastic scattering observables for p+Ca-40 and for p+Pb-208 at energies between 30 and 400 MeV are presented and discussed. We also study total cross sections for neutron scattering off Ca-40, Zr-90, and Pb-208 in the 5 - 400 MeV energy range. The theory gives a reasonable overall description of the data in the energy range under study

Deuteron effects in nucleon-nucleus scattering at intermediate energies

%e investigate the role of the full dynamical dependence of the free off-shell nucleon-nucleon t matrix on the optical potential for proton-nucleus elastic scattering in the 100-400 MeV incident energy range within a full-folding model context. Particular emphasis is placed on the effects of deuteron formation by explicitly taking into account pole singularities in the free nucleon-nucleon t matrix. The full-folding model for the optical potential provides a Bexible framework for this purpose as it allows the sampling of the internucleon effective force both off shell and as a function of the energy available in the center of mass for the interacting nucleon pair. A comparison of calculated and measured scattering observables for proton elastic scattering on Ca and Pb leads to the conclusion that the full off-shell free t matrix is a poor approximation for that part of the nucleonnucleon effective force required for calculating optical potentials below 250 MeV. Medium effects and higher order corrections to the optical potential are necessary to improve our understanding of nucleon scattering.
