Optical Emission from Triboelectric Gas Discharge toward Self‐Powered Gas Sensing

Abstract: Optical emission from gas molecules is considered an excellent solution to gas detection because of its fairly high sensitivity and selectivity. However, its further development is constrained by its large size, high energy consumption, and security risks. Herein, a self‐powered gas sensing solution is proposed by taking advantage of the optical emission of triboelectric discharge (TD). Based on the triboelectric effect, the high output voltage of ≈kV can lead to producing optical emissions through gas dischar… Show more

“…Innovating new technologies brings about a revolution in terms of life quality. In the past few decades, the rapid development of wearable electronics and the internet of things (IoTs) has brought us into the digital and intelligent health era [ 1 7 ], radiating to applications involving rehabilitation [ 8 , 9 ], health monitoring [ 10 ], disease diagnosis [ 11 ], etc. This also has a substantial impact on the sports field.…”

“…Recently, we proposed a concept of “tribo-photonics”, where the modulation of optical behaviors such as focal length, emission spectrum, , scattering strength is triggered by the friction-generated charge. The photons, instead of electrons, serve the role of the information carrier, which can transmit through free space, eliminating cable connections for communication.…”
