Optical and thermal simulation chain for LED package

Abstract: This paper presents a test case for coupling two physical aspects of an LED, optical and thermal, using specific simulation models coupled through an open source platform for distributed multi-physics modelling. The glue code for coupling is written with Python programming language including routines to interface specific simulation models. This approach can also be used for any other software. The main optical simulations are performed with an open source ray tracer software and the main thermal simulations a… Show more

“…Csca is the scattering cross sections (mm 2 ), p(θ,λ,r) is the phase function, λ is the light wavelength (nm), r is the radius of diffusional particles (µm), θ is the scattering angle (°), and f(r)) is the size distribution function of the diffuser in the phosphorous layer. Furthermore, the relationship between luminous output and the red phosphor concentration can be formulated according to Mie-scattering theory and the Beer-Lambert law [14][15][16][17] as the following (4) Where I is the transmitted light power, I0 is the incident light power, µext = N.Cext is the extinction coefficient, L is the path length, and N is the number of particles per cubic millimeter.…”
