“…To the best of our knowledge, prior literature on bulk and thin films of TlI NCs did not report PL at room temperature. Agekyan et al 41 reported similar PL at 80 K from microcrystals of TlI embedded in a porous matrix. Probably, the smaller size of our NCs increases the overlap between the electron and hole wavefunctions which increases the transition probability for PL.…”

“…TlCl is a promising material in optics, it demonstrates an interesting properties and a broad band luminescence is observed at the indirect gap region in TlCl crystals under high density excitation (Madden and Wilson, 1996). The influences of the radius of the quantum dots and the confinement strength on the ground state energy of the strongcoupling exciton in the semiconductor TlCl quantum dots were investigated (Fuji et al, 2001;Agekyan and Stepanov, 2001) and methods of synthesis of nanoparticles are under development (Urakaev and Shevchenko, 2006). We report the controlled synthesis of TlCl crystals via a porphyrin-mediated reaction at the liquid-liquid interface between aqueous Tl 2 SO 4 and HCl solutions and show that porphyrin exhibits a strong influence on the crystallisation process.…”

“…The dielectric functions of TlBr and TlCl in the cubic structure are resolved into one component ε xy (ω), the average of the spectra for the polarization along the x and y-directions is given in [30]; c reference [7]. Figure 2 shows the variation of the dispersive part of the dielectric function, ε 1 .…”

“…However, the electronic structures of these materials are poorly understood. For TlCl, the transmission spectra of films in the range 3 -6 eV [11], the characteristic electron loss spectra [12], and theoretical dispersions of four valence and four conduction bands are known [13,14]. In addition, the energies of interband transitions are determined for TlCl in a narrow energy range (3 -6 eV) only for X and R points and a middle point of the ΓM direction [14].…”
