Final optics assembly is one of the most important parts in high energy and large-scale laser systems like US National Ignition Facility and SG III in China. Those final optics assembly are facing some severe tests, like the laser-induced damage caused by 3ω (351 nm) laser irradiation. Meanwhile, the irradiation of gamma ray and X-rays, will also cause the changes of optical properties in the investigated multi-component phosphate glasses that have potential use in novel color separation optics in high power laser facilities. These changes of optical properties are associated with the defects induced by gamma radiation. In details, some defects contribute to the absorption in the UV region, which will deteriorate their UV performance. However, some of the induced defects can be eliminated by thermal treatment due to the release and capture of the electrons in conduction band. Besides, the doped Fe, Co, B, Ce and Sb will also affect the defect-state in phosphate-based glasses. In details, gamma radiation resistances of the phosphate glass can be greatly improved by CeO 2 and Sb 2 O 3 co-doping, and the introduction of B 2 O 3 reduces the connectivity of phosphate chains and thus increases the concentration of PO 3-EC and PO 4-EC defects.

Alkaline earth binary borate glasses with the composition of (100-x) B 2 O 3 + X (BaO, CaO, SrO) where x=22, 32 or 42 wt. % were prepared by melting annealing technique. Some of their physical and spectroscopic properties have been studied before and after gamma irradiation such as Density, oxygen packing density, molar and specific volumes, as well as optical UV-visible absorption, optical energy gap (Eopt), FTIR and ESR spectroscopy. The UV-visible spectra show a shifting of the optical edge to higher wavelengths withincreasingthe polarizability of the introduced modifier ion and the dose of gamma radiation. FTIR spectra show the vibrational bands of the structural borate groups; the triangular BO 3 and tetrahedral BO 4 units at 1200-1600 cm-1 and 800-1200 cm-1 respectively. ESR spectra show a constant behavior of the glasses at the low doses of radiation up to 60 kGy but show high effect of radiation at the higher doses due to the formation of more paramagnetic defects and free radicals.

I N this paper, the optical spectroscopic properties of Co 3 O 4 doped borate glass with chemical composition: 60 B 2 O 3 , 30 ZnO, (10-x) Na 2 O, x Co 3 O 4 , (where x= 0 (S0), 0.1 (S1), 0.2 (S2), 0.3 (S3), 0.4 (S4), 0.5 (S5) mol %) were investigated. The glass samples (S0-S5) were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique. The formability of all prepared glass samples was examined by XRD and UV-visible spectroscopy techniques. The amorphous nature of glass structure was confirmed by XRD-technique. Archimedes method was used to measure density and calculate the molar volume of the prepared glass composition. It was observed that the density and molar volume were found to be increased by increasing concentration of Co 3 O 4. The optical spectroscopic characteristics of the obtained borate glass have been carried out over the whole range (190-2500nm) for studying the bandpass glass filter and UV cutoff. Through experimental data it was observed that the optical energy gap decreased from 3.25 to 3.03 eV by increasing doped cobalt oxide contents on borate glass. Furthermore, UV cutoff regions increased by increasing concentration of cobalt oxide. The effect of doping concentration on the optical properties of the prepared glass samples (refractive index, extinction coefficient, permittivity, dielectric constants, electric susceptibility and polarizabilities) was determined and studied.
