Optical and electrochemical properties of tunable host–guest complexes linked to plasmonic interfaces

Abstract: This article describes the use of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) interface to detect complexation/decomplexation steps of a controllable host-guest system at the solid-liquid interface. The LSPR interfaces consist of a sandwiched structure comprising a tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) substrate, gold nanostructures (Au NSs) and a thin ITO film overcoating. ''Click'' chemistry was used to covalently link an alkyne-functionalized p-electron deficient tetracationic cyclophane cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene… Show more

“…35 Gao et al 36,37 used rf magnetron co-sputtering to embed isolated gold nanoparticles into the dielectric matrix. We recently focused on the deposition of oxide-based overlayers such as tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) 38,39 and SiO x 29,40,41 using r.f. sputtering and plasmaenhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) to stabilize gold nanostructures.…”

“…We first present how refractive index varies with the change in adsorbed molecules single strand DNA (ssDNA) into double strand DNA (DNA) on the sensor surface, then the refractive index of sensing medium (n a ) is mathematically modified as [11,16]: Here, n a (DNA) is the RI of the sensing dielectric after adsorption of DNA molecules, n a (PBS) is RI of the sensing dielectric before adsorption of DNA molecules, c a is the concentration of adsorbed DNA molecules, and dn dc / is the RI increment due to the adsorbate (DNA). The RI increment parameter is dn dc / = 0.182 cm 3 /gm in the case of using a standard buffer solution [16].…”

“…The understanding of the properties of the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) is significantly more complex when the AuNPs are deposited on a substrate [1,5,6] and/or when the interaction between the AuNPs and the substrate is not neglected [7][8][9]. It is quite clear from the theoretical and experimental studies on the AuNPs that several parameters govern their behavior [10,11].…”

“…In both water and organic solvents, they spontaneously form a very stable pseudorotaxane host-guest complex (schematically shown in Figure 1). Its dissociation can, however, be reversibly triggered by different external stimuli, such as heat, electrochemical oxidation/reduction, [5] or the addition of competitive guest molecules. [2,6] When these units are covalently attached to polymer chains, their characteristic responsive capacities are imparted to the resulting material.…”
