Optical and Electrochemical Properties of Metallophthalocyanine Derivative Langmuir−Blodgett Films

Abstract: The formation of high-quality Langmuir-Blodgett films of copper and nickel phthalocyanine derivatives substituted with short branched chains is reported. Ellipsometric and polarized optical absorption measurements suggest that the phthalocyanine molecules have a preferred orientation, with their large faces perpendicular to the dipping direction and to the substrate plane. Electrochromic effects are also noted in these multilayer films.

“…Due to these exceptional properties, phthalocyanine and metallophthalocyanine thin films have been recently intensively investigated especially using the optical methods such as absorption, emission, ellipsometry, femtosecond transient absorption and Raman spectroscopy [6][7][8][9]. However, the electrical and optical properties of MPc layers depend on morphology and orientation of molecules relatively to the substrate surface.…”

“…Orientation of the molecular MPc thin film deposited on different substrates have been estimated using a different experimental methods [6,7,10,11,12,13]. The cobalt phthalocyanine exists in several molecular forms, but the most known are the α -and β -form.…”

“…Potential areas of application of a planar system based on phthalocyanines include electroluminiscent devices, electrochromic displays, organic field effect transistors, organic light emitting diodes, and photoelements. LBF of mono phthalocy anones have been studied by many groups of research ers for a long time [161,324,328,329]. It is known that symmetric nonamphiphilic phthalocyanine derivatives are characterized by the formation of columnar aggregates packed in a face to face arrange ment on the interface oriented in parallel to this sur face [330].…”

“…Photoelectrochemical (PEC) methods have particularly wide application prospects due to the above inherent advantages as well as their accuracy. [25][26][27] Ni tetraamino phthalocyanine (NiTAPc), produced by reduction of the corresponding tetranitro species [28] is a representative metallophthalocyanine. [12][13][14][15] Photosensitive materials such as nanosemiconductors, Ru(II) complexes, organic compounds, composite photoelectric materials, and biological macromolecules [16][17][18][19] have been extensively used in the fields of bioanalysis and drug/contaminant quantitation.…”
