Opposite-side flavour tagging of B mesons at the LHCb experiment

Abstract: The calibration and performance of the opposite-side flavour tagging algorithms used for the measurements of time-dependent asymmetries at the LHCb experiment are described. The algorithms have been developed using simulated events and optimized and calibrated with B+→J/ψK+, B0→J/ψK∗0 and B0→D∗−μ+νμ decay modes with 0.37 fb−1 of data collected in pp collisions at during the 2011 physics run. The opposite-side tagging power is determined in the B+→J/ψK+ channel to be (2.10±0.08±0.24) %, where the first uncerta… Show more

“…The OS taggers [45] exploit the fact that in p p collisions beauty quarks are almost exclusively produced in bb pairs. Hence the flavor of the decaying signal B 0 ðsÞ meson can be determined by looking at the charge of the lepton, either muon or electron, originating from semileptonic decays, and of the kaon from the b → c → s decay transition of the other b hadron in the event.…”

“…The decay width difference between the light and heavy B 0 s mass eigenstates (∆Γ s ), the average decay width (Γ s ) and the B 0 s oscillation frequency (∆m s ), are gaussian-constrained to the values measured by LHCb [7,8], taking into account the correlations. Opposite-side and Same-side Kaon flavour tagging algorithms were used [9,10]. The total tagging power is determined from data to be (3.29 ± 0.48)% [11].…”

“…Key ingredients for the analyses presented in the following are the ability to trigger on and to disentangle different modes owing to dedicated ring-imaging Cherenkov detectors. Some channels of interest additionally require good tagging capabilities and excellent proper time resolution, that are detailed elsewhere [6].…”

Some channels of interest additionally require good tagging capabilities and excellent proper time resolution, that are detailed elsewhere [6].The data sample used for the analyses presented here ranges from 36 pb −1 to 0.4 fb −1 . Three different categories of analyses are distinguished with respect to the studied final states.…”
