Opportunities for Low Cost Processing of Erbium 8-Quinolinolates for Active Integrated Photonic Applications

Abstract: Erbium-doped organic emitters are promising active materials for Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) due to their emission shown at 1550 nm combined to the potential low cost processing. In particular, Erbium Quinoline (ErQ) gained a strong interest in the last decade for the good emission efficiency. This contribution reports the results derived from the application of ErQ as active core material within a buried optical waveguide, following the development of a purposed optical process to control the refracti… Show more

“…43 (2) The ErQ complex has been shown to be a promising material for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) 44,45 and the E1.5 mm optical amplifiers. 44,[46][47][48][49] We demonstrate that the use of organolanthanide precursors allows one to incorporate higher concentrations of RE ions into chalcogenides (B1 at% Er in As 3 S 7 ) in comparison with the RE-doped melt-quenched glasses (B0.1 at% Er in As 2 S 3 ). 40 The optical properties and the 4 I 13/2 -4 I 15/2 photoluminescence (PL) emission at E1.5 mm of the As 3 S 7 :ErQ films annealed at 125, 200 or 300 1C are presented.…”
