The difficulty of root growth of dragon fruit cuttings is affected by stem rot; one way to increase the growth of cuttings is to use a growth regulator, namely Indole Butyric Acid (IBA), which is used to stimulate the growth of dragon fruit rootstock cuttings. This research was conducted in Sidorukun Village, Pangkatan Sub-district, Labuhan Batu District, North Sumatra, Indonesia, at an altitude of ± 40 m above sea level, from June to October 2020. The research design used was a randomized block design with five treatments. The concentration of the IBA hormone consists of B0 : 0 ppm, B1: 4,500 ppm, B2: 5,500 ppm, B3: 6,500 ppm, B4: 7,500 ppm, and five replicates, so the entire experimental plot was 25. Parameters observed were percentage of shoot emergence, age of shoot emergence, shoot length (cm), shoot fresh weight (g), shoot dry weight (g), root length (cm), fresh root weight (g), root volume (g), and root dry weight (g). Data analysis used a linear model followed by Duncan's test. It is known that the administration of Indole butyric acid (IBA) significantly affected the observed parameters on shoot emergence, age of shoot emergence, number of shoots, root length, fresh root weight, root volume, and root dry weight. However, it did not affect the observed parameters, namely, shoot length, shoot fresh weight and shoot dry weight. On the other hand, B4 concentration (7,500 ppm) gave better shoot growth, root weight, and root dry weight.

Weathered bottom ash (WBA) from municipal solid waste incineration is a calcium aluminosilicate-rich material mainly used in construction and civil engineering as a secondary aggregate. However, its use is also being considered as a precursor in the manufacture of alkali-activated binders (AA-WBA). This preliminary research aimed to deepen understanding of the potential use of WBA (>8 mm fraction) as the sole precursor of alkali-activated binders. To gain better knowledge of this material, the physicochemical, mechanical, and environmental properties of AA-WBA binders were evaluated. In addition, the effect of curing temperature (25 °C, 45 °C, 65 °C, and 85 °C) and humidity conditions (oven and climate chamber) were assessed. The results of this study revealed that temperature and humidity conditions play a fundamental role during the early formation stages of AA-WBA binders. Maximum compactness and compressive strength (29.8 MPa) were obtained in the sample cured at 65 °C in the oven and room humidity. At higher temperatures (85 °C), a substantial decrease in mechanical strength (21.2 MPa) was observed due to a lower cohesion of the binder phases. Curing in the climate chamber led to an increase in humidity, and therefore a decrease in compressive strength. Finally, lower porosity and longer curing time substantially decreased the heavy metals and metalloid leaching concentration of AA-WBA binders.

In order to clarify the influence of the municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash (MSWI BA) content on the pavement performance of the cement-stabilized macadam, the MSWI BA with 0%, 25%, 38% and 50% content was used instead of fine aggregates. To explore the feasibility of building pavement base with cement stabilized MSWI BA, the cement-stabilized MSWI BA mixture was prepared by mixing the MSWI BA at the mass fraction of 50%, 75% and 100% with fine crushed stuff. Subsequently, the compaction test and 7 days unconfined compression test were conducted with 4%, 5% and 6% cement dosage. The compaction test, unconfined compressive strength test, splitting strength test, compressive resilient modulus test and frost resistance tests were carried out based on the long-age samples with an optimal cement dosage of 5%. Furthermore, the unconfined compressive constitutive model was established based on the test data. Afterwards, the test road was built to measure the practical effect of MSWI BA on road construction. Meanwhile, energy-saving and emission-reduction analyses were conducted on the MSWI BA road. The results showed that under 5% cement dosage, the mechanical properties and frost resistance of the mixture with different MSWI BA content both satisfied the specification requirements; during the construction, the appropriate MSWI BA content could be selected according to the requirements of different highway grades in the specification. The established segmented constitutive model could well simulate the stress–strain relationship of the mixture in the compressive process. Using cement-stabilized MSWI BA to build the pavement base was feasible, which provided not only an important reference for the engineering design but also had positive significance for promoting carbon peaking, carbon neutrality and sustainable development of highway engineering construction.
