Opportunistic Fungal Infections with Particular Reference of Candida albicans*

Abstract: Summary The account given on two opportunistic fungal infections ‐ cryptococcosis and Candida mycosis ‐ is by no means exhaustive or complete. Such mycoses as aspergillosis, mucormycosis and others were neglected in this presentation, although their agents could likewise be cited as classical opportunists. Aspergillus fumigatus with its ubiquitous world‐wide occurrence will usually cause disease in close connection with environmental and host factors, and the same seems to be true for some phycomycetes. To wha… Show more

“…recovered from this study are known opportunistic organisms and may have caused infection in these inmates whose immunological status has been reduced due to unfavourable conditions of the prison. 25 We recommend occasional screening of prison inmates for not only fungal skin infections but also infections caused by other organisms and prompt treatment of such infections should be incorporated into Health care delivery scheme of the government to reduce the suffering of the prisoners.…”

“…The organism usually exists as a harmless commensal, but has the potential to become invasive, infectious, and even fatal by targeting numerous organ systems (1,2). As other pathogens, C. albicans relies on its host for micronutrients, such as metals, and the bioavailability of metals can greatly vary at the host-pathogen interface.…”
