OPN01-6: Enabling Security Countermeasure and Service Restoration in Passive Optical Networks

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a novel passive and wavelength selective remote node specifically designed to enable security countermeasure in PONs. The central office could physically isolate problem makers from the network without disrupting regular links by issuing a wavelength specific control signal to this device. With its wavelength selective nature, the countermeasure-enabled passive device is also a natural candidate to a WDM-PON remote node. To demonstrate its feasibility, a discrete version of the devi… Show more

“…In instances such as a malicious attack or even only a malfunction ONU, countermeasure is the only mean that can protect the operation of other normal ONUs. An effective countermeasure system based on a passive and remotely configurable device was proposed in [3] (Fig.4). The proof-of-concept system is realized using a specialty fiber that is concatenated with carbon-coated TeO 2 segments that are susceptible to high laser power.…”

“…A transmissão contínua do laser pode ter como razão um defeito no dispositivo ou até mesmo uma alteração intencional deste dispositivo. Devido à natureza passiva da rede, a identificação da ONU problemática é difícil e alguns mecanismos têm sido propostos para identificação ou desconexão destas ONUs [31]- [32].…”
