Abstract:Stony corals make up the bedrock of coral reefs, but they are not the only benthic organisms that contribute to reef diversity. Sponges, ascidians, octocorals, anemones, macroalgae, and more add directly to the complexity and biodiversity of reefs (Figure 1).
