Operative Behandlung von Verletzungen des thorakolumbalen Übergangs

Abstract: The authors report on a prospective multicenter study with regard to the operative treatment of acute fractures and dislocations of the thoracolumbar spine (T10-L2). The study should analyze the operative methods currently used and determine the results in a large representative collective. This investigation was realized by the working group "spine" of the German Trauma Society. Between September 1994 and December 1996, 682 patients treated in 18 different traumatology centers in Germany and Austria were incl… Show more

“…The anterior approach is then performed a few days later. A twostage procedure for combined antero-posterior treatment is also preferred by the members of the spine working group of the DGU (German Trauma Society) [1]. Posterior instrumentation was, as a rule, performed with a USS internal fixator with an additional cross-link.…”

“…Special recording forms (the current recording form of the ''spine'' working group of the German Trauma Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft fu¨r Unfallchirurgie, DGU) [2]) were completed for each of these 50 consecutive patients during their initial in-patient stay and during the course of treatment. The authors themselves received the data on medical reports and patients' comments concerning their lifetime activities and backrelated problems.…”

“…Furthermore, there are no clear indications and an ''ideal treatment algorithm'' for traumatic thoracolumbar (T1-L5) spinal injuries is not widely accepted. Guide lines of the surgical treatment are confusing and the literature on this argument is controversial showing an almost complete disagreement regarding indications, approaches, surgical techniques, and type of fixation [10][11][12].…”
