OpenWRT operating system based controllers for mobile robot and building automation system students projects realization

Abstract: Two projects were described and compared. Both of them are students projects. Experience gained during the first project realization enabled to realize second one. The common part of the projects is programming system controller in OpenWRT operating system. Both devices are controlled using website control panel, so they do not need dedicated software on the remote computer installed, typical web browser is enough. All functionality for controlling and management is implemented in router.

“…At the same time, many researchers also choose OpenWrt routers as a basic component in their researches for its openness and programmability. For example, Kai implemented a PPPoE traffic control system [46], Kim implemented the remotely intelligent management to an indoor lighting system so as to save energy [22], Kciuk realized the remotely control on robots in an intelligent buildings [21], Palazzi achieved the fast and smooth transmission of real-time flow and meanwhile ensured the high throughput of TCP applications [27], Lee designed a software-defined wireless mesh network architecture SD-WMN [24], Serrano built a low-cost wireless network testbed [34], Reich designed a delay tolerance network testbed-MadNet [31].…”
