OpenRoads

Abstract: We present OpenRoads, an open-source platform for innovation in mobile networks. OpenRoads enable researchers to innovate using their own production networks, through providing an wireless extension OpenFlow. Therefore, you can think of OpenRoads as "OpenFlow Wireless".The OpenRoads' architecture consists of three layers: flow, slicing and controller. These layers provide flexible control, virtualization and high-level abstraction. This allows researchers to implement wildly different algorithms and run them c… Show more

“…The idea of Thin APs with a centralized controller has recently been introduced into academia as well as industry [1]- [9]. However, current studies [1]- [5] only solve AP management issues individually, which cannot offer a complete solution for large-scale Wi-Fi networks. Furthermore, additional protocols and software agents are needed in such solutions.…”

“…An integration work featuring OpenFlow and wireless IEEE ICC 2014 -Next-Generation Networking Symposium 978-1-4799-2003-7/14/$31.00 ©2014 IEEE networks is being conducted by the group that proposed OpenFlow [5] [6], which, by extending SNMP into the OpenFlow Controller, allows the control of power, frequency, data rate, SSID, etc., and to capture wireless events, such as detecting the association of a host with an Access Point. The use of OpenFlow in Wireless Mesh Networks is also being subject of study [7] [8].…”
