In 2010, after two previous unsuccessful attempts at electronic resources management system (ERMS) implementation, Texas A&M University (TAMU) Libraries set out once again to find an ERMS that would fit its needs. After surveying the field, TAMU Libraries selected the University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Libraries-developed, open-source ERMS, CORAL (Centralized Online Resources Acquisitions and Licensing). This article documents the selection, planning, and implementation of CORAL at the Texas A&M University Libraries as well as future plans for the system.Attend any library conference in the last few years and the subject of electronic resource management systems (ERMS) is sure to come up, either in the program or as a topic of conversation. Despite the number of proprietary and open-source options available, these presentations and discussions indicate that finding the Holy Grail might be easier than finding the perfect ERMS. In 2010, after two previous unsuccessful attempts at ERMS implementation, Texas A&M University (TAMU) Libraries set out once again on its quest to find the elusive ERMS that would fit its needs. After surveying the field, TAMU Libraries selected the University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Libraries-developed, open-source ERMS: Centralized Online Resources Acquisitions and Licensing (CORAL). This article documents the selection, planning, and implementation of CORAL at the Texas A&M University Libraries, as well as future plans for the system. BACKGROUNDTAMU is a research-intensive institution with more than 50,000 students engaged in over 150 courses of study on its main campus. The University Libraries include five on-campus libraries: Sterling C. Evans Library (the general university library); Cushing 16 Downloaded by [Stony Brook University] at 09:53 20 December 2014 CHARTING A COURSE THROUGH CORAL 17Memorial Library and Archives; Medical Sciences Library (MSL); West Campus Library (business); and Policy Sciences and Economics Library. Altogether, 80 librarians and 175 professional and classified staff are employed in the University Libraries. In FY 2012, the overall University Libraries' budget exceeded $37 million, with more than $12 million of collection expenditure spent on electronic resources. The majority of these expenditures are applied among three types of resources: electronic serials (over 67,000); databases (roughly 1,000); and ebooks (over 100,000).As if sheer size and the resultant financial commitment toward electronic resources were not enough incentive to have a full functioning ERMS, TAMU is also the flagship campus of the Texas A&M University System, a group made up of 14 campuses, 7 state agencies, and 1 health science center. In this capacity, TAMU Libraries negotiates licenses for TAMU System subscriptions, maintains an SFX server that reflects these shared subscriptions, and often acts as the liaison between the campuses and vendors when problems arise. Purpose -The article aims to examine how the University of Maryland, College Park, evaluated two specific task management software packages that could make the pre-order workflow for electronic resources more transparent to library staff. Design/methodology/approach -The results from an electronic resources gap analysis done at the University of Maryland, College Park, were used as a basis to evaluate and select task management systems. Findings -Two electronic resource management systems, CORAL and License Manager, were selected. They were evaluated in the areas of task, license and vendor information management. Originality/value -This paper provides criteria that could be used to evaluate tools that support license management for electronic resources.

Purpose This paper aims to examine and analyse the status and differences in different components of e-resources management of business/management school libraries in India. It also examines the factors responsible for criteria/methods used in the life cycle of e-resources and e-resource management (ERM) system. Design/methodology/approach This study uses convenient sampling method as the management institutes in India are many and scattered around India. A suitably designed questionnaire has been prepared and sent to the libraries. Data collected from the librarians/library in-charge on managing e-resources in their libraries selected under study were entered into SPSS software for analysis. Further, coding and decoding of data are being done for analysis. Simple cross tabulation, simple statistical tools like mean and standard deviations and advanced statistical tools like ANOVA, chi-square test and multiple regression analysis, etc. have been applied for analysis. Findings E-resources management is one of the most important concepts in any academic library. After automation and digitization of library resources, there is a challenge for library professional to manage this tremendous increase in e-resources. In this study, it is observed that all libraries are not following all the steps of different components of ERM such as selection, evaluation, acquisition, license agreement and renewal/cancelation of e-resource which are essential for the better management of e-resources. The voluminous e-resource can easily be managed through the ERM system. However, this study found that better management of e-resources directly effected by the facilities of IT infrastructures available in the library and proportion of non-professional staff to total staff. Research limitations/implications This study is confined to 38 libraries of ranked management institutes/business schools in India based on the report published in Business India, Business World and Business Today. This study is confined to issues relating to e-resources collection development, the status of IT infrastructure, life-cycle process of e-resources and tools and technology implemented to manage e-resources. Originality/value This paper provides how electronic resources are being managed by business/management school libraries in India. What are the methods/criteria they are being used in different components of the life cycle of e-resources management? In this paper, the hypothesis has been tested by using simple and advance statistical tools.
