Open Rotator Cuff Tear Repair Using Deltopectoral Approach

Abstract: Background:The goal of this study was to evaluate the outcome of the open repair of rotator cuff tears via the deltopectoral approach in patients unable to afford arthroscopic repair costs. Methods:We evaluated 80 consecutive patients who were treated for full-thickness rotator cuff tears by open repair through the deltopectoral approach. There were 48 men and 32 women at a mean age of 60.1 years (range, 35-80 years). Preoperative and postoperative clinical assessments were performed with the Constant score, Am… Show more

“…Moreover, postoperative pain and stiffness has been associated with repair of subscapularis tear, accounting for up to 53% of the cuff movements [30,31]. Associated procedures LHB tenotomy or tenodesis, acromioplasty, and capsulotomy [32], and glenohumeral/acromioclavicular osteoarthritis could also increase the rate of POSS [29,33,34].…”

“…The main goal of the rotator cuff tear repair surgery is to alleviate pain, and the improvement of shoulder function is treated as a second priority. In 20 to 95% of patients, the repair of the rotator cuff may be unsuccessful, depending on factors such as tear size, time elapsed from the injury, fat atrophy and surgical technique (5 (6,7). Arthroscopic repair is a standard treatment for rotator tear, which is currently applied for all types of small or large tears (8,9).…”
