Open charm production in p + p and Pb + Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Abstract: Effects of strong longitudinal color electric fields, shadowing, and quenching on the production of prompt open charm mesons (D 0 , D + , D + * , D + s ) in central Pb + Pb collisions at s NN = 2.76 TeV are investigated within the framework of the HIJING/BB ¯v2.0 model. We compute the nuclear modification factor R PbPb D , and show that the above nuclear effects constitute important dynamical mechanisms in the description of experimental data. The strength of color fields (as characterized by the string tensio… Show more

“…Therefore, κ 2 ∝ (dN ch /dη) η=0 and κ ∝ Q sat,p , similar to the CGC model, as discussed in Ref. [60]. The energy dependence of the chargedparticle density at midrapidity in pp collisions up to the LHC energies was described using a power law dependence,…”

“…This model is able to reproduce the measured £2 yield within about 30% [71], but does not reproduce the shape of the p t distribution. The £2/0 ratio predicted by the HIJING/BB v2.0 model [80,81,83,84], with a strong color field and a string tension of k = 1.8 GeV/fm, reproduces neither the shape nor the values of the measured data. A larger string tension of k = 5.1 GeV/fm gives a predicted £2/0 ratio (not shown) that is at least a factor of three larger than the measured ratio.…”
