OoNAC72, a NAC-Type Oxytropis ochrocephala Transcription Factor, Conferring Enhanced Drought and Salt Stress Tolerance in Arabidopsis

Abstract: The NAC proteins form one of the largest families of plant-specific transcription factors (TFs) and play essential roles in developmental processes and stress responses. In this study, we characterized a NAC domain transcription factor, OoNAC72 , from a legume Oxytropis ochrocephala . OoNAC72 was proved to be localized in the nuclei in tobacco lower epidermal cells and had transcriptional activation activity in yeast, confirming its transcription activity. … Show more

“…We selected lines 27# and 28# for further investigations based on the screening results on 0.5 µM ABA and expression analysis ( Figure S2) of randomly selected 5 transgene linesfrom T3 generations. Our selection of two lines for further studies is consistent with Huang et al [46], Guan et al [47], and Shi et al [48]. ABA act as an important phytohormone in the plant responses to abiotic stresses [49], and several studies have shown that ABA sensitivity correlate with stress tolerance in plants [50][51][52].…”

“…TFs are critical regulatory factors for developmental processes and stress responses in plant. TFs bHLH, MYB, NAC participated in regulating seed germination in rice, wheat, and Arabidopsis, respectively (Chen et al, 2018;Zhao et al, 2018;Guan et al, 2019). Four DEGs encoding ubiquitin proteasome system proteins (GeneID: 108332901, 108337045, 108319922, 108329730), and five TFs (GeneID: 108331170, NC_030637.1.548, 108331246, 108338278, 108346333) were identified, indicating they might regulate seed germination in response to drought stress in adzuki bean.…”

“…Being able to regulate gene expression, transcription factors (TFs) have been known to be indispensable players in the regulation of plant drought responses [16,17]. Among the drought-related TF families in plants, the NAC (NAM—No Apical Meristem of petunia, ATAF1/2— Arabidopsis Transcription-Activating Factor1/2, and CUC2—Cup-Shaped Cotyledon2) family has been identified as a key plant-specific TF family [18,19,20,21]. The NAC proteins are characterized by the possession of a conserved DNA-binding domain at the N-terminus and a transcriptional regulatory domain at the C-terminus [22].…”
