Chemotherapy is a basic treatment method of neoplasms at a systemic stage. Chemotherapy regimens including docetaxel are commonly used in every day clinical practice. Docetaxel is a chemotherapeutic agent that causes skin toxicity among other side effects. It involves alopecia and periungual lesions. The latter may cause pain as well as discomfort, and constitute a cosmetic problem. Sometimes they may lead to termination of the therapy due to negative effects on the quality of life and everyday activities. The aim of the article is to present clinical problems of patients undergoing chemotherapy with docetaxel that experience periungual lesions, and show treatment methods from a dermatologist's perspective. Moreover, prophylactic methods that prevent appearance of severe lesions are presented. StReSZcZenieChemioterapia jest podstawową metodą leczenia nowotworów w stadium uogólnienia. Schematy chemioterapii zawierające docetaksel są powszechnie stosowane w codziennej praktyce klinicznej. Docetaksel jest chemioterapeutykiem, który oprócz innych objawów niepożądanych powoduje toksyczność skórną, m.in. łysienie oraz zmiany okołopaznokciowe. Zmiany okołopaznokciowe mogą wywoływać ból, dyskomfort oraz stanowić problem kosmetyczny. Czasami są przyczyną zakończenia terapii z powodu negatywnego wpływu na jakość życia i codzienne funkcjonowanie. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie problemów klinicznych pacjentów poddanych chemioterapii docetakselem, u których wystąpiły zmiany okołopaznokciowe, a także metod leczenia z punktu widzenia dermatologa. Autorzy zaproponowali również metody zapobiegania powstawaniu zmian o dużym nasileniu.

Drug-induced onycholysis is a rare, unpredictable, but severe event, whose pain and discomfort is hardly affordable, impairing manual activities or ambulation. Patient's quality of life might be severely compromised, and correct patient information is mandatory before starting any therapy potentially able to cause it. The course is favorable, with spontaneous remission with drug withdrawal, but complete recovery might take several months due to the slow nail growth rate. Aim of this review is to arouse medical attention on this peculiar type of drug adverse reaction, listing current medications reported as more or less frequent culprit, to recognize the challenge and manage it properly. Patient awareness is critical to prevent and immediately counter act the changes, as well as avoid possible favoring factors, such as contact irritants, trauma, and moisture. Another important issue is recognizing and reporting new observations, as the constant introduction of new drugs will definitely increase the list of possible offending medications.

We report a case of Beau's lines at even intervals and onycholysis caused by chemotherapy. The patient with a diffuse large cell B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) stage A underwent combination chemotherapy consisting of R-CHOP (Rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubin, vincristine, predonisolone) every three weeks (21-day intervals) six times. As he was treated with R-CHOP, he noticed each Beau's lines (transverse groove ) on all 20 nails each time. In addition, he had onycholysis caused by cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin treatment. Two months after discontinuation of chemotherapy, Beau's lines disappeared.
