ONVisor: Towards a scalable and flexible SDN‐based network virtualization platform on ONOS

Abstract: Summary Network virtualization (NV) technologies have attracted a lot of attention as an essential solution for future networking infrastructure. The NV enables multiple tenants to share the same physical infrastructure and to create independent virtual networks (VNs) by decoupling the physical network in terms of topology, address, and control functions. One feasible way to realize full NV involves considering solutions based on the software‐defined networking (SDN) paradigm using its programmability. The SDN… Show more

“…A multipath network virtualization scheme using policies for network function virtualization that obtains a summary of network resources to select and spread flow over multipaths, where network virtualization provides computing and storage resources for flow splitting, packet reordering, etc., has been studied in [520]. A network virtualization framework called Open Network Hypervisor (ONVisor) has been designed with policies to provide isolated control and data planes per virtual network, support for distributed operators, on-platform virtual network application development and execution, and support for heterogeneous data planes [521]. By considering the shortcoming of efficiency in distributing physical network resources among virtual tenants in the OpenVirtex network virtualization platform, an application for a QoS management mechanism using a resource manager to distribute token buckets among virtual networks according to their weights is proposed in [522].…”

“…It is used to implement the slices in the virtual network because it is supported virtualization techniques. Additionally, In this platform, virtual networks were isolated using VLAN tags with a limited tag size [53]. None of the above controllers is designed for Network Slicing; even these controllers work in a virtual network.…”

“…In other words, on the basis of collecting and analyzing network, SD-AP resources can implement global optimization processing to the whole network. It can be seen that the purpose of this module design is to obtain the resources in SD-AP and bring the specific view of network resources to the control layer so as to help the system application carry out the resource scheduling work in an orderly manner [14].
