“…These cord are usually 3-4 ~m thick in the zone of previtellogenic growth and become increasingly difficult to follow anteriorly after 1~20 ~m because their cytoplasm stains progressively more like that of follicular cells. Similar trophic cords are reported for many Scarabaeidae although Berberet & Helms (1972), Dattar & Kumar (1963, Lopez-Guerrero & Blume (1983), and Vogel (1950) do not mention them.…”

“…The latter have a single ovary of one ovariole and this lacks or has only a rudimentary terminal fllament (Heymons 1930;Willimzik 1930;Ralffter & Lopez-Guerrero 1977). They also lack accessory glands and sometimes a spermathecal gland, and their bursa copulatrix is a simple sac-like dilation of the vagina (Edmonds 1974;Halffter & Lopez-Guerrero 1977;TyndaleBiscoe 1978;Huerta etaL 1981;Lopez-Guerrero & Blume 1983). Amongst other Scarabaeidae, additional structures not reported in Melolonthinae are a small pair of bulb-like organs ("Ausstiilpungen") that arise from the base of the bursa in the ruteline Anomala aenea (Rittcrshaus 1927), a dilated bulb in the bursal neck, and a spherical swelling in the spermathecal duct of the dynastine Heteronychus arator (Johannesson 1975;Mercer & King 1976).…”
