The detection of potentially harmful substances as well as those dangerous to life is a multifaceted challenge. On the one hand, it can directly save lives, on the other hand, it can help and improve the work of the police, increasing effectiveness of the investigation. The research carried out within the framework of this study is primarily aimed at identifying paracetamol in fingerprints, taking into account situations of direct contact of a person with paracetamol chronically or in a single high dose. The identification procedure presented, using Raman spectroscopy, aims to rapidly identify the xenobiotic after ingestion by the person - requires touching the tablet with the fingers, which we can name as touch evidence in forensic science investigation. In addition, the authors focus on the effect of additives present in drugs containing paracetamol as the main active ingredient. The results of the screening obtained will allow us to analyze the composition of drugs in terms of potentially toxic substances and their impact on the physicochemical activity of the active substance itself. The research methodology developed also allows for the quick detection of other substances dangerous to life and health, such as amphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, or morphine. In addition to the preventive function, it is also a new solution in the field of forensic methods.

Introduction and aim: Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is a commonly used analgesics and antipyretics and it is a nonprescription medicine. Improper use of it may lead to accidental or intentional poisoning. The aim of the study was to analyse paracetamol poisonings in children and adolescents admitted to the Clinical Department of Toxicology and Cardiology in Stefan Wyszyński Regional Specialist Hospital in Lublin in 2022. Material and methods: The research was retrospective. Medical records of poisoning cases in patients up to the age of 18 were analysed specifically emphasizing acetaminophen poisonings.Results: In the studied period 120 adolescents were hospitalized due to intoxication, 65 of them due to medications intake, the most commonly used medicine was acetaminophen. There were 20 cases of hospitalization because of acetaminophen intake, 17 (85%) patients were female and 3 (15%) of them were male. Patients were from 15 to 17 years old. In 12 cases (60%) patients came from urban areas. The intentional intoxications were found in 18 (90%) cases, 13 of them were suicide attempt. Majority of cases of attempted suicide were female (92%). The other intoxications were accidental, where patients took acetaminophen as a painkiller. In the researched group there were no deaths.Conclusions: Paracetamol overdosing is always associated with the risk of liver damage.This medicament as a potentially hepatotoxic drug should not be sold over the counter. The availability of paracetamol is too widespread, which poses a risk especially to children and adolescents. The ubiquitous advertising of acetaminophen products as well as their popular use, for example, in menstrual pain, favor their presence in almost every Polish home. Parents and guardians should be educated about the dangers of uncontrolled use of so-called OTC drugs - incorrectly commonly considered safe.

The feeling of pain accompanies a significant proportion of Medical Emergency Teams (METs) and emergency depart¬ment patients, especially those with trauma. Modern medicine focuses on combating this unpleasant sensation, as it can negatively affect the patient’s condition. Paramedics, who are the first on the scene, in today’s emergency care system work in primary teams, i.e. without a doctor, so it is their responsibility to implement appropriate pharmacotherapy. Assessment and treatment of pain in the pre-hospital care setting are among the key aspects of the role of paramedics. In view of the scarcity of diagnostic tools, decisions are made on the basis of simple clinical tests, so the knowledge and experience of medical personnel seem to be paramount here. It is important to keep in mind the current state of the pa¬tient, as well as potential disorders that may occur during transport to the hospital. Massive injuries to organs, multiple areas of the body, as well as an advanced stage of disease, require the administration of strong analgesics. The use of appropriate analgesia in the prehospital setting, significantly improves the patient’s comfort and often contributes to a huge improvement in the clinical condition. Undertaking pain management from an ethical and moral point of view is one of the essential tasks of medical personnel, and also demonstrates commitment and professionalism.
