Online Testing Framework for Web Services

Abstract: Testing conceptually consists of three activities: test case generation, test case execution and verdict assignment. Using online testing, test cases are generated and simultaneously executed. This paper presents a framework that automatically generates and executes tests "online" for conformance testing of the Web service composition described in BPEL. The proposed framework considers unit testing and it is based on a timed modeling of BPEL specification, a distributed testing architecture and an online testi… Show more

“…Moreover, they are meant to be used at design time rather than checking the automatically orchestrated system at runtime. In contrast to these approaches, [17] proposes to validate the composed system at runtime. However, the approach favors using testing methods rather than formal verification which does not provide full coverage of system executions.…”

“…They applied a protocol conformance testing technique based using symbolic transition system (STS) to service orchestration testing. Cao et al [28] proposed a framework that automatically generates and executes tests for conformance testing of service orchestration specified in BPEL. They applied a protocol conformance testing technique using timed extended finite state machine (TEFSM).…”

“…The framework presented in [4] generates and executes automatically "online" tests for conformance testing of a composite of Web Services described in BPEL. This "online" approach was combined with passive testing, that verifies time traces with respect to a set of constraints in [3].…”
