One-Step Synthesis of Pt-Nanoparticles-Laden Graphene Crumples by Aerosol Spray Pyrolysis and Evaluation of Their Electrocatalytic Activity

Abstract: Pt-nanoparticles-laden graphene (GR) crumples were directly synthesized from a colloidal mixture of aqueous chloroplatinic acid (H 2 PtCl 6 ) and graphene oxide (GO) sheets via aerosol spray pyrolysis (ASP). Effects of Pt content in the Pt/GR composite and temperature of heating zone on the particle morphology, diffraction pattern, and specific surface area were investigated. The morphology of Pt/GR was the shape of a crumpled sheet of paper and the average size of the composite was around 1.3 µm in diameter. … Show more

“…Hence, the ratio (I f /I b ) indicates the catalyst's tolerance to carbonaceous species accumulation. A higher I f /I b ratio indicates a higher tolerance to intermediate carbon species, and thus, methanol can be oxidized to carbon dioxide more efficiently [25,39].…”

“…In our earlier works [22][23][24][25][26][27], it was demonstrated that GRbased composites with a three-dimensional (3D) morphology had a high free volume and compressive strength [22,24,27]. In addition, they could be tightly packed without significantly decreasing the accessible surface area, unlike the 2D GRbased sheets [25][26][27].…”

“…The aerosol process is a very rapid process when used to prepare porous composite particles from the sprayed droplets of a colloidal mixture [22]. This method has been widely used due to its many advantages, including the fact that it is a simple system that is also cost effectiveness, and the fact that it can be scaled up to quantities in the tons [23][24][25]. The effects of the precursor contents on particle properties such as the morphology, specific surface area, and pore size distribution were examined.…”

“…On the other hand, the ASP has many advantages in fabricating of crumpled GR from GO because it is a very fast, simple and continuous process for fabricating self assembled composites as a one-step method 41) . It also takes a very short time of several seconds for crumpling and reducing of GO together and does not require any post heat treatment, purification or reduction agents 23,[41][42][43] . The size of the crumpled particles and the degree of crumpling can be tuned with the concentration of GO in the aerosol droplets.…”
