One-step synthesis of nail-like Mn-doped CdS/CdBr2 hetero-nanostructures for potential lasing application

Abstract: Nanoscale heterostructures, which incorporate two or more materials such as core-shell nanocrystals, core-crown nanoplates, or seeded nanorods, allow better control of the optical, electrical and magnetic properties that are inaccessible in single component nanostructure, yet their variety and controlled growth are still challenging. Here, a nail-like Mn-doped CdS/CdBr 2 hetero-nanostructure, which has a hexagonal plate on top of a nanowire, is firstly fabricated by a simple one-step thermal evaporation proces… Show more

“…One example of the applicability of CdBr 2 in optoelectronics is the fabrication of CdS/CdBr 2 heterojunctions which are reported to have potential lasing applications. [ 5 ] This heterojunction was doped with manganese. The manganese bromide interactions are mentioned, playing critical roles in the formation of nanonails.…”

“…An amplified spontaneous emission from the nanonails was observed when excited by femtosecond pulses. [ 5 ] In addition, high‐quality ultralong (millimeter‐level) Van der Waals CdBr 2 micro‐/nanobelts were produced and used as photodetectors. [ 6 ] Similar to AlN photodetectors, [ 7,8 ] CdBr 2 photodetectors displayed high responsivity, nominating them for use in optoelectronics.…”

“…The optical and electrical properties and catalytic performance of materials strongly depend on their morphology and structure. The high quality of nanostructures with controlled crystalline, grain, and surface architectures is of great fundamental and technological interest because of their promising new properties, which can be valuable for advanced materials [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. In particular, the hierarchical self-assembly of nanoscale materials (e.g., particles, cluster, wires, belts, sheets, and tubes) into novel architectures of a higher dimensionality is highly desirable because these structures could have new properties that can be meaningful for the fabrication of advanced nanodevices and in other nanotechnology applications [9,10].…”
