One-step synthesis of a pH switched pyrene-based fluorescent probe for ratiometric detection of HS in real water samples

Abstract: The probe Pyr was synthesized in a single step through condensation of 1-pyrenecarboxyaldehyde with 4-methylpyridine. Under acidic condition (pH 2.0) probe undergoes selective reversible response with HS−than other sulfur species and the probe utilized to trace HS−in real water sample.

“…This probe was used to image exogenous H 2 S in HepG2 cells. Also using a conjugated electrophiles, Velmathi reported pyrene-based 771 , which provides a shift in fluorescence from 595 to 482 nm upon reaction with H 2 S with good selectivity over competing cations, anions, and thiols . This reaction could be chemically reversed by the addition of acid and was further used to develop H 2 S responsive test strips.…”

“…Also using a conjugated electrophiles, Velmathi reported pyrene-based 771, which provides a shift in fluorescence from 595 to 482 nm upon reaction with H 2 S with good selectivity over competing cations, anions, and thiols. 777 This reaction could be chemically reversed by the addition of acid and was further used to develop H 2 S responsive test strips. As an additional example, Hu reported perylenequinone-based 772, which generates a fluorescent response at 462 nm when treated with H 2 S. 778 This probe showed good selectivity over other competing species, but did show partial activation when treated with polysulfides and was further used to image exogenous H 2 S in HeLa cells.…”
