One‐step polymerization of hydrophilic ionic liquid imprinted polymer in water for selective separation and detection of levofloxacin from environmental matrices

Abstract: A novel green hydrophilic levofloxacin imprinted polymer was presented via onestep polymerization in water using ionic liquid 1,6-hexa-3,3 ′ -bis-1-vinylimidazolium bromine with multiple hydrophilic groups and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate as a cofunctional monomer. Adsorption experiment revealed that the ionic liquid significantly improved the water compatible of imprinted polymer, and the excellent recognition of molecularly imprinted polymer for levofloxacin in water corresponds to the synergetic effect of H-… Show more

“…For example, Zhu et al. [56] synthesized an IL‐MIP‐coated PSD adsorbent in aqueous environment, using 1,6‐hexa−3,3′‐bis−1‐vinylimidazolium bromide (a hydrophilic ionic liquid) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate as functional monomers, for selective MISPE of levofloxacin from environmental waters and sediment, where the synergetic effect of hydrogen bond and electrostatic and π‐π interactions was the primary driving force for adsorption. The hydrophilic IL‐MIPs can be synthesized in water and finally applied to the MISPE of analytes in aqueous solutions.…”

“…Recent work has expanded their application to include molecular recognition in aqueous solutions, which is a positive progress towards their implementation in real-world application. [197] MIPs are prepared by first synthesizing the monomer, and subsequently copolymerizing. The monomer is synthesized in the presence of the template (i.e., the desired analyte), which is subsequently solvent washed to leave behind an imprint.…”
