One step acid modification of the residual bark from Campomanesia guazumifolia using H2SO4 and application in the removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic from aqueous solution

Abstract: The residual bark of the tree species Campomanesia guazumifolia was successfully modified with H 2 SO 4 and applied to remove the toxic herbicide 2.4-dichlorophenoxyacetic (2.4-D) from aqueous solutions. The characterization techniques made it possible to observe that the material maintained its amorphous structure; however, a new FTIR band emerged, indicating the interaction of the lignocellulosic matrix with sulfuric acid. Micrographs showed that the material maintained its irregular shape; however, new spac… Show more

“…The AC PO4 (Figure 1e,f) displayed a great distribution of pores on the surface, characteristic of materials with excellent adsorptive capacity and high surface area, as shown in previous publications [50,51]. These favorable characteristics can allow for the favorable penetration of cheese whey molecules into the pores of the particles [52].…”

“…extract. However,Castro et al (2023b) related an SPF of 5.56 to peel ethanolic extract of C. guazumifolia Bevilacqua et al (2021). studied the use of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) treatment of the bark to alter the lignocellulosic structure, obtaining a material capable of removing 312.81 mg g -1 of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid at a temperature of 298 K. Preigschadt et al(2022) also studied the alteration of the bark of C. guazumifolia for use as an adsorbent, obtaining retention of 158.3 mg g -1 for ketoprofen at a temperature of 298 K.PATENTSNo patents are related to C. guazumifolia United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and European Patent Office (Espacenet).…”
