One-pot sonochemical synthesis of CdS nanoparticles: photocatalytic and electrical properties

Abstract: CdS nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized by sonochemical method using tryptophan as a capping agent. The synthesis process is of one step, using biocompatible capping agent, which is nontoxic. The synthesized NPs are characterized by UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence, FTIR, XRD, TGA, DLS, SEM and TEM. The size of NPs is below 10 nm, as observed from XRD and TEM characterizations. Photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) dye by the CdS NPs as photocatalysts under sunlight irradiation has been studied. The … Show more

“…As shown in Figure c, the spectra of both BPWHW/AgNW and the BPWHW/AgNW after centrifugation showed typical peaks of both AgNWs and BPWHW. The peaks at ∼1360 and ∼1250 cm –1 were attributed to the CH bending and aromatic CH out-of-plane bending of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) on the AgNW surface, respectively, whereas the peaks at ∼2997 and ∼1400 cm –1 were attributed to the CH stretching and NH bending vibrations of BPWHW, respectively. The adhesion of BPWHW on the AgNWs might be induced by the physical adsorption or hydrophobic interaction between the M13 bacteriophage surface proteins and the bare AgNW surface. However, this issue requires further investigation that is beyond the scope of the present work.…”

“…Three characteristic peaks at 3307, 1650, 1538 and 1361 cm −1 , for neat zein, correspond to the NH stretching, to amide I (C=O), amide II (N-H bending) and amide III (C-N), respectively [20]. For the sample with tryptophan the characteristic peaks are 3402, 3037, 1589, 1411, 1357 and 1059 cm −1 , that correspond to N-H stretching in amines, C-H stretching in alkenes, N-H bending in amines, C-H bending in alkanes and C-N sketching in aryl amines [21].…”

“…Numerous studies have been undertaken to evaluate different photocatalyst design strategies in order to increase CdS efficiency. 104,[276][277][278][279][280] When combined with other semiconductors, CdS becomes more useful. The most recent developments in CdS-based photocatalysts will be addressed in this section.…”
