Onboard Measurement for a Container Ship in view of Container Load Condition

Abstract: SummaryFor the estimation of ship speed in actual seas, it is important to calculate external forces acted on a ship hull with accuracy. In National Maritime Research Institute, a calculation method for ship speed in actual seas on a constant engine output has been developed and validated by onboard measurements with the cooperation of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan, the Ministry of Environment, Japan and the relevant shipping and ship building companies. The results of onbo… Show more

“…As for wave measurement, the system analyses the images obtained by X band radar for 2 minutes half-hourly. The accuracy of this wave measurement system is validated by Kuroda et al 16) .The anemometer is located at a height of 29 m above water line in full load condition and it is installed on radar mast on the bridge.…”

“…Its feedback to ship design enables the development of ships which display high performance in actual seas. Onboard monitoring data are also very useful for ship owners/ 21 Added resistance in short crested irregular waves at F r = 0.16 (left; using Eqs. 14 and 15, right; not using Eqs.…”

“…The estimation method is validated through on-board measurement [19][20][21][22][23] and is also applied to evaluation of the hull form above the water surface [24]. Verification of [17] the calculation method was carried out at ITTC, and its effectiveness has been confirmed [14].…”
