On the use of ordered statistics decoders for low-density parity-check codes in space telecommand links

Abstract: The performance of short low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes that will be included in the standard for next-generation space telecommanding is analyzed. The paper is focused on the use of a famous ordered statistics decoder known as most reliable basis (MRB) algorithm. Despite its complexity may appear prohibitive in space applications, this algorithm is shown to actually represent a realistic option for short LDPC codes, enabling significant gains over more conventional iterative algorithms. This is possibl… Show more

“…As a result, even though ADZF scheme has extra operations compared with FC scheme, it still have benefit in the viewpoint of complexity. Finally, as a merit of the proposed scheme, ADZF scheme is compatible with the various existing schemes using LDPC codes, such as [32][33][34], in the viewpoint of the practical usage of their schemes. Decoding complexity of their schemes is reduced through simply adopting proposed scheme to LDPC decoder.…”

“…at modulation ("waveform") level. LPI and LPD waveforms [32][33] [34] along with signal processing and channel coding techniques [35] are highly effective against jamming attacks and interception. Early studies of information-theoretic physical layer security focused on multibeam satellite communications.…”

“…The application of the non-iterative MRB algorithm (alone or inside the hybrid decoding) to LDPC codes has been recently investigated from a theoretical point of view [4], [5]. To the best of authors' knowledge, however, no practical implementation has been reported, until now, in the literature.…”
