On the time compression (test acceleration) of broadband random vibration tests

Abstract: Many broadband random vibration tests are time compressed. This is done by increasing test intensity according to the Basquin model of cyclic fatigue. Conventionally, the test level is accelerated from the root mean acceleration and an assumed power constant (k = 2) is applied. Using conventional analysis the potential error in test severity can be very large if k is incorrect. The Miner-Palmgren hypothesis of accumulated fatigue is used to re-assess the potential error in test severity accounting for the non-… Show more

“…A further question is the required duration of the simulation depending on the transportation distance. This is a very important practical question, becauseespecially in case of large distance transports-simulating the whole length is impossible and the PSD function will not excite real values but it will compress all the unique vibrations in the whole frequency range and the small bandwidth vibrations also [15]. It can be said that with the transforming of vibrations to frequency ranges the possibility of measuring in time range will be lost.…”

“…Accelerated random vibration testTo evaluate the fatigue damage, the tests using the PSD from standards or road vibration data are carried out, which usually costs a long time. It is significant to establish methodology of accelerated random vibration test Response of packageIn previous studies, package was never assumed to separate from base, and response of package was symmetrical.…”

“…Therefore, G rms ‐ N curve is the foundation of accelerated random vibration test. Shires ever investigated the time compression of the inverse power law and showed the high sensitivity of the power exponent b in accelerated vibration testing. It is noted that the input power spectral density (PSD) shapes featuring the testing environment and the real one must have the same shape in the method of transport packaging accelerated random vibration.…”
