Abstract:In observational causal inference, matched-pairs studies are often analyzed using randomization tests. While intuitively appealing, these tests are not formally justified by the randomness in the treatment assignment process (the "design") unless all matches are exact. This paper asks whether these tests can instead be justified by the random sampling of experimental units. We find that under fairly restrictive sampling assumptions, the paired randomization test based on a regression-adjusted test statistic ma… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
