On the spectrum of a matrix model for the D $equal$ 11 supermembrane compactified on a torus with non-trivial winding

Abstract: The spectrum of the Hamiltonian of the double compactified D = 11 supermembrane with non-trivial central charge or equivalently the non-commutative symplectic super Maxwell theory is analyzed. In distinction to what occurs for the D = 11 supermembrane in Minkowski target space where the bosonic potential presents string-like spikes which render the spectrum of the supersymmetric model continuous, we prove that the potential of the bosonic compactified membrane with non-trivial central charge is strictly positi… Show more

“…The image of under this map is a calibrated submanifold of T 6 . The spectrum of the theory changes dramatically since it has a pure discrete spectrum at the classical and the quantum levels [38][39][40][41]43]; see also [42,45] 7 . The model that we study here involves additional symmetries beyond the original ones [41] which will be crucial in our coming discussion.…”

“…To be specific let us consider the case in which Σ is a torus and the compactified target space is M 9 × S 1 × S 1 [16,4,17], although more general compactified target spaces for which there exists a minimal immersion from Σ into the target space may also be treated along the lines we follow here [18].…”

“…It is a solution of the supermembrane field equations which preserves one half of the original supersymmetry. The most general configuration space and hamiltonian for the supermembrane with the above base manifold and target space with a non-trivial central charge was obtained in [4,17,16] and shown to have a discrete spectrum. We are interested here in the quantization of the corresponding superparticle with non-trivial central charges.…”
