On the Role of Unitary-Symmetry for the Foundation of Probability and Time in a Realist Approach to Quantum Physics

Abstract: We show that probabilities in quantum physics can be derived from permutation-symmetry and the principle of indifference. We then connect unitary-symmetry to the concept of "time" and define a thermal time-flow by symmetry breaking. Finally, we discuss the coexistence of quantum physics and relativity theory by making use of the thermal time-flow.

“…The c x (t) ∈ C represent amplitudes for the probabilities p x (t) = |c x (t)| 2 to detect the system in position x ∈ R 3 at time-point t ∈ R. The points (t, x) ∈ R × R 3 ≈ R 4 are considered as degrees of freedom. "Time", t ∈ R, does have the role of describing change under preservation of identity and is hence not the value of an observable, like position x ∈ R 3 [9]. At this point the space R 4 is just considered as a set and must not be confused with empirical space-time, where observed physical systems manifest themselves.…”

“…It is a great pleasure to celebrate the launch of the journal Foundations. The keyword "foundation" appears in the titles of some of our publications [1] or the title of the journal where papers were published [2], or it is closely related to fundamental concepts such as entropy and symmetry that we choose as our research topics [3,4]. Interesting studies are driven by great passion.…”
