“…However, significantly lower activities in the VOCs combustion are achieved in their presence. The most commonly studied metal oxide catalysts include Co- [5,[22][23][24][25], Cu- [5,22,26], Mn- [5,22,25], Ce- [5,12,16,26], and Fe-containing materials [21,22]. It has been found that a suitable chosen support with controlled porosity favors high dispersion of active phase and enhanced activity in the total oxidation of VOCs [27][28].…”

“…Noble metal-based materials (e.g. Pt [9][10][11][12][13][14][15] and Pd [16][17][18][19][20][21] dispersed on various supports, such as Al2O3 [6, 9-10, 12, 14, 17, 19-20], ZrO2 [6,19] or TiO2 [16][17][18]), are usually studied in a role of catalysts of the VOCs combustion. They exhibit very high catalytic activity at relatively low temperatures, but are expensive and prone to deactivation by sintering or poisoning.…”

“…The porous Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 composites precisely make up the disadvantages of single TiO 2 because of the large surface area and strong surface acidity of Al 2 O 3 [23]. CeO 2 is a crucial component in catalysts for its role in oxygen storage, redox properties and enhancing the dispersion of noble metals and the thermal stability of catalysts which always plays the role of promoter in support [21,24].…”

“…The support properties also play an important role in the efficiency of catalysts [21]. Supports were expected to be an important component of the catalyst, since they often profoundly affected the generation of active species and the catalytic performance of Pd [12].…”

“…Ceria has relatively large absorption and desorption properties of oxygen due to the active Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ redox pair in comparison with other metal oxides, and thus the mixing of CeO 2 to various catalysts effectively improves the combustion behavior against hydrocarbons and VOCs [44][45][46][47][48]. Among them, it was also demonstrated that the addition of CeO 2 onto Ptloaded ␥-alumina and Pt/Pd-loaded ␥-alumina largely enhanced the catalytic performance of n-butanol and acetic acid oxidation [44] and methane [45], respectively, and these findings were especially served for our study as a useful reference. Copper oxide also has relatively high oxidation activity against various VOCs, owing to the large coverage of oxygen adsorbates on the surface despite of p-type semiconductor [49][50][51].…”
