On the possibility of wormhole formation in the galactic halo due to dark matter Bose–Einstein condensates

Abstract: It has been recently claimed that dark matter could be in the form of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in order to explain the dynamics at large distances from the galactic center [Boehmer, Harko, JCAP 0706, 025 (2007)]. In this paper we explore the possibility of wormhole formation in galactic halos due to the dark matter BEC. In particular we have found a new wormhole solution supported by BEC dark matter using the expressions for the density profile of the BEC and rotation velocity along with the Einstein … Show more

“…In order to compute the traversal time t (≈ τ ), we consider the equality case in inequality (17). At the same time, if we consider that the wormhole throat r 0 ≈ 100 m and the junction radius h ≈ 10000 m, then the traversal time is given by t ≈ τ ≈ 2h/v.…”

“…Some work has been done in this regard, such as [14], showing that based on the Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) profile traversable wormholes may form in the outer halo of galaxies. Recently, [17] pointed out the possibility of traversable wormhole formation in a Bose-Einstein condensation dark matter halo, however, one only obtained the approximate solution. In this paper, we study the exact solutions of spherical symmetry traversable wormhole in the dark matter halos under the isotropic pressure condition, and we obtain the axisymmetric traversable wormhole by the Newman-Janis (NJ) algorithm.…”

“…This information allows us to close the θ -system determining the full θ μν tensor (and, consequently, the full energy-momentum tensor of the solution) and the decoupler function, f (r ), therefore closing the problem at least from a mathematical point of view. This approach motivates and also allows to support the idea that these type of solutions can be constituted by the dark sector, which dominates our Universe [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][41][42][43]. Even more, it provides a possible interpretation of the contribution introduced by MGD.…”

“…Moreover, wormhole solutions with other type of symmetries have been investigated in [37][38][39] and also the possibility to obtain a traversable Schwarzschild-like wormhole has been considered [40]. Furthermore, recently [41] was studied and analyzed the behavior of wormhole structures in the realm of dark matter profiles, dark matter Bose-Einstein condensates [42] and non-linear equation of state [43], respectively.…”
