On the Performance of DF-based Power-Line/Visible-Light Communication Systems

Abstract: This paper presents a comprehensive performance analysis of an integrated indoor power line communication (PLC)/visible light communication (VLC) system with the presence of a decode-and-forward (DF) relay. The existing indoor power line networks are used as the backbone for VLCs. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated in terms of the average capacity and the outage probability. A new unified mathematical method is developed for the PLC/VLC system and analytical expressions for the aforementioned … Show more

“…In [163]- [166], there are using DF protocol, and there uses AF protocol in [167]. According to the above discussion, AF protocol is easy to implement and low cost, but it cannot eliminate noise; DF protocol can completely eliminate the influence of noise, but the implementation complexity is high.…”

“…In [36], the opportunity of PLC and IWOC channel integration was investigated. Literatures [37,38] analyzed the capacity of hybrid IWOC/PLC systems based on AF and DF. First, the source node passes the information to the relay node through the PLC link, and then the relay node amplifies [39] or decodes [20] the transmitted information, and finally forwards the information to the destination node through the IWOC link.…”

“…The author verifies that the implementation of decode and forward (DF) relay has better performance than AF relay, as shown in Figure 18. To further improve the performance of PLC and IWOC cooperative system, researchers introduced relay technology into such IWOC indoor broadcast communication system [37,38,[68][69][70]. In [69], PLC link is connected with IWOC link through DF relay and becomes the backbone of IWOC link.…”

“…In [14], a survey on opportunity of integrating PLC and VLC channels has been presented. The capacity analysis of an amplify-and-forward and decode-and-forward based hybrid PLC/VLC systems have been carried out in [15] and [16], respectively. Here, the source node first transmits the information to the relay through a PLC link and then the relay node amplifies [15] or decodes [16] and forwards it to the destination node through a VLC link.…”
