On the on-shell: the action of AdS4 black holes

Abstract: We compute the on-shell action of static, BPS black holes in AdS 4 from N = 2 gauged supergravity coupled to vector multiplets and show that for a certain class it is equal to minus the entropy of the black hole. Holographic renormalization is used to demonstrate that with Neumann boundary conditions on the scalar fields, the divergent and finite contributions from the asymptotic boundary vanish. The entropy arises from the extrinsic curvature on Σ g × S 1 evaluated at the horizon, where Σ g may have any genus… Show more

“…Having such full interpolating solutions from the near horizon to the asymptotically AdS 4 region would help clarify various aspects. For example, by evaluating its on-shell action one could potentially clarify the I-extremizaiton procedure [37][38][39] in terms of an attractor mechanism in the bulk extending on previous related work along the lines of [41][42][43].…”

“…Based on these considerations, the authors of [23] related the extremization principle for AdS 5 black holes to the attractor mechanism in one dimension lower. The relation between the entropy of supersymmetric AdS 4 black holes and their on-shell supergravity action was discussed in [25][26][27].…”
