On the local structure of the set of values of Euler's $φ$ function

Abstract: Assuming the validity of two standard conjectures, we show that the set of the values of the Euler totient function ϕ has Banach density 1/4. The paper raises the question to prove unconditionally that this Banach density lies in a proper subset of [0, 1/2].
