Abstract:for noncubic solids and the circumstances under which its phonon frequencies become imaginary are analysed by making use of this model in the lattice dynamical study of face centred tetragonal indium. It is shown that the arbitrary differences in the tangential force constants along x and z directions destroy the compatibility between off-diagonal and diagonal matrix elements, relatively stronger off-diagonal elements give rise to imaginary frequencies at certain wave vectors along nonsymmetry directions while… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
