On the Identification of Local Structural Defects in Composite Thin-Walled Structures

Abstract: The presented work considers the issue of the usefulness of alternative methods aimed at quickly and effectively identifying the local damage to the thin-walled composite load-bearing structures. Two ways of identifying destruction were considered, based on the assumption that the damage that occurs during operation causes local changes in the system rigidity. The first method is based on strain gauges. It consists of embedding strain gauges in the structure at the stage of composite production and monitoring … Show more

“…Furthermore, in order to verify the experimental studies, a numerical analysis was carried out for a reference temperature. The calculations were carried out in Abaqus program, (using very popular and widely used finite element method [46][47][48][49][50][51][52], by solving a linear eigenvalue based on the minimum potential energy criterion of the system. The FE model with boundary conditions and buckling form present in Figure 7.…”

“…This paper introduces a straightforward approach to estimate buckling forms and buckling load in plates element under compression. These estimations were conducted using artificial neural network with using Abaqus software, a tool prevalent across diverse scientific domains [40][41][42][43].…”

“…By decreasing the strength and stiffness, the load bearing capacity and service life is also decreased which can cause premature and catastrophic failure. [ 3,4 ] Stress is concentrated at the edge of the holes which is the major reason of reduced strength. [ 1,5,6 ] However, holes of various shapes and sizes are commonly used in the mechanical joints of aircraft components and thus their presence has a significant impact on the behavior of the composite material.…”
