“…Here, we took advantage of the imposed velocity ramp for the first time to study the different growth mechanisms observed as a function of growth velocity. As expected, the eutectic spacing is decreasing from center to the sample edge following the increase in velocity [7]. During RDS, the local V value increases from zero at the center of rotation to ωR at the sample edge in the lateral direction, x, where R (≈ 2.5 mm) is the outer radius of a circular sample.…”

“…In this work, we present observations of the growth dynamics in thin AMPD-SCN samples during rotating directional solidification (RDS) experiments. During RDS, a thin sample is slowly rotated at constant angular velocities ω with respect to the axis of the fixed unidirectional temperature gradient G. Previously, the RDS method has been used to vary continuously the orientation of the crystals with respect to G during solidification [6][7][8]. Here, we took advantage of the imposed velocity ramp for the first time to study the different growth mechanisms observed as a function of growth velocity.…”

“…A comparison between a comprehensive Laue microdiffraction analysis and EBSD measurements in a reference sample will be presented in a separate publication. Finally, further experimental information on the anisotropy of the interphase boundaries should be obtained via the socalled rotational directional solidification method [20,21].…”

“…Indeed, within the symmetric-pattern approximation, the RDS microstructure is homothetic to the shape of the interphase boundaries predicted by the Wulff construction [53]. A more recent RDS setup has been built by Melis Şerefoğlu in her laboratory in Turkey, and used, in particular, for the study of interfacial-anisotropy effects in ternary, three-phased eutectics [54]. The next step was to establish a clear link between the locked-lamellar growth dynamics, the presence of deep minima in the -plot, and coincidence planes in anisotropic eutectic grains.…”
