On the Formation of the Garnet Phase in Oxidic High‐Temperature Solutions

Abstract

The paper informs 011 the formation of the garnets Y3Fe501,, Y3Al,0,, end Gd,Ga501, US primary phase in t h e ternary solvent mixtures PbO-PbF,-B,03 and PbO-MoO,-B,O,. There are correlations with formerly measured oxygen ion concentrations (OIC) in t h e solvents: i) each garnet grows in ct special region of tlic OIC, t h e phase boundaries are paru.llel to t h e lines of constant OIC and ii) t h e garnet solubility increases distinctly with decreasing OIC. This emphasizes t h e important role of the oxygen ions for t h e garnet formation.Solubility models are discussed taking into consideration both previous and present results.
