On the Effect of Temperature on Tightening Characteristics of Gaskets

Abstract: To study the effect of temperature on the tightening characteristics of gaskets, leak rate tests were performed using a servo-hydraulic test equipment (short term temperature exposure). According to the tests the tightening behaviour of gaskets made of fibre based sheet material improved with temperature due to additional deformation of the gaskets during the test. In tests with camprofile gaskets with graphite layers there was no significant additional deformation of the gasket thus the leak rates showed no d… Show more

“…To measure the leakage rate, test equipment "TEMES fl.ai1" fig. 2 was used with software controlling the effective gasket surface stress, supplying test gas under pressure and reading the mass of gas passed through the gasket [10,11,12]. Helium was used as the test gas in the test.…”

“…Stress-strain curves and its linearization at 20 C. influencing the gasket relaxation are temperature and time. [13][14][15][16] Here, the stress relaxation tests at different temperatures are conducted to study the effect of MMC graphite gasket's stress relaxation on the sealing behavior. The MMC graphite gaskets are loaded to the target stress value (between 40 MPa and 50 MPa).…”
