On the dynamic characteristics of ball bearing with cage broken

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the dynamic behavior of the ball bearing with cage broken. Design/methodology/approach By analyzing the complicated relationship and interactions among the ball bearing elements, the dynamic modelling of the ball bearing with broken cage was established, and the dynamic simulations were conducted by solving the ball bearing dynamic equations using varying-step Runge–Kutta integration. Findings The computational results show that there is considerable dist… Show more

“…When the train is running at high speed, the vehicle's weight and the impact of the wheels and rails will intensify the vibration of the internal components of the bearings (Yu et al, 2023;Gong et al, 2023). At the same time, the cage belongs to the weak parts in the axle box bearing, so it often suffers from common failures such as twisted deformation, wear and fracture (Li et al, 2020;Cui et al, 2019). Therefore, it is of great significance to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the axle box bearing and the vibration of its components to ensure the safe operation of the bearing (Deng et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2019;Guo et al, 2024).…”

“…In a normal needle roller bearing, the roller and cage impact each other randomly [2]. However, the irregular collisions can change the load distribution and lead to the initiation of cracks on the cage bridge.…”

“…From a kinematic viewpoint, one of the most problematic bearing elements is the bearing cage (Ghaisas et al , 2004). As the bond's weakest link, the cage is often subject to wear, abnormal twisting, fracture and other failures (Li et al , 2020), which makes cage bearings unsuitable for special applications such as backup bearings for active magnetic bearings. The backup bearing prevents damage caused by a failure of the component itself, the power supply or the control system (Halminen et al , 2015).…”
